REHABILITATION AND INDEPENDENT LIFE

With the term Rehabilitation we mean the recuperation of abilities following an accident or illness.

With the term Independent Life we mean the possibility for a disabled person to obtain personal autonomy in his, or her, daily activities.

Information Technology with its capacity for accelerating and enhancing communication opportunities, as well as helping with the exercise of control, is a strong instrument towards reaching rehabilitation and independence.

With the appropriate tools, Information Technology can contribute towards overcoming isolation. It can increase communication opportunities, the ability to socialize, as well as move and control the surrounding living environment and do it without the need of help from others.

ASPHI promotes the study and the realization of systems that contribute towards reaching greater daily autonomy in communication, in mobility and in the control of the environment. (this includes on-line communication for employment or recreational purposes) for various degrees of disability.

The objectives are:

  • developing the activity of assessments for fast diagnosis;

  • promote the development of rehabilitating software

In cooperation with various universities, medical institutes, hospitals and local medical surgeries, ASPHI is engaged in research and development of sofware aimed at bettering medical assessments and screening processes, for a more tailored process of rehabilitation enabling people with disabilities to achieve autonomy as soon as possible.

In this context prevention assumes a primary role, and is the main focus of the most recent projects, finalised, for example, towards the individuation of hearing loss (EARGAMES) or specific learning disabilities (EULEX).

ASPHI, in cooperation with the association SportABILI of Predazzo (TN), specialised in sport and recreational activities for people with disabilities, also partecipated to a project about bettering opportunities for disabled people in accessing those activities (VAI).
