A disabled person can become a resource

This is how one can change the role of a person with disabilities within the company. Real integration is possible where both employers and employee can gain from each other. The right person in the right place: this simple principle increases productivity, and it is so with people of all abilities.

As to enable this integration in the workplace, there has to be a process whereby attention is paid to various aspects: access needs, the use of technology, staff training. The whole of this process has been described and summarised by the Guidelines - devised by ASPHI and by IBM Italy.

WHY ADOPT THESE GUIDELINES

  • For increased and better productivity, tied to the recruitment of trained, qualified and motivated employees.

  • According to recent employment legislation, (law 68/99), people with disabilities are a relevant percentage also numerically (7%) of every business or firm. Moreover, the numbers of people involved is much superior as well, approximate calculations range around 15% or italians are involved in disability.

  • Thinking about solutions and access needs works in such a way that it's inclusive of all the population and therefore increases the range of people that can access services or needs, making it an economically advantageous for businesses.

  • From a practical point of view, technological aids available today can benefit from substantial help towards their cost, as established in many regional and national legislations so that both business and employees can take advantage.
