What is ECDL

ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) is a programme under CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies), the organization of European Information Technology Associations: Italy is one the 17 member countries and is represented by AICA (Associazione Italiana per l'Informatica ed il Calcolo Automatico).

ECDL is an internationally recognised certificate, attesting minimum ability in using a personal computer independently or at work or at school, from home, etc.

AICA has achieved an agreement with the Public Education Ministry, (www.istruzione.it/prot482_00.htm) on the basis of which the ECDL certificate will be adopted in schools as a standard for certifying competence in information technology, and will be formally recognised as credit towards the state exams for the Maturity Diploma.

The Ministry of Employment has also created a formal document which certifies ECDL's role in Employment. (www.istruzione.it/news/2001/prot_patente.htm).

A similar document has been drawn up betweeen the Public Education Ministry and the Conference of Italian Universities' Deans (www.istruzione.it/news/2001/protocolloint_01.htm) which gives the ECDL certificate a training credit towards university education as a reference point for basic knowledge of information technology.

ASPHI onlus, through DIDACTA onlus Training Partners, together with Anastasis, is now officially recognised by AICA as a Test Centre enabled to operate as official certifying organization for special needs: "for disabled people only".

Moreover, ASPHI onlus, within the ECDL programme has been recognised by AICA as national reference point for the rest of italian test centres so to give advice and suggestion on the modality of achieving ECDL by people with disabilities.
